Jason Dea West's new single, Louella, punches through the speakers like a steel frame vintage car roaring down a mountain pass, a deep breath after the whiteknuckle climb. The song drives with a hypnotizing feel, like the mirage of heatwaves rising off black pavement, all the while exploring memories & meaning, personal transformation & presence, and the experiences which braid them together. To bet on your dreams is a gamble, and sometimes the next step is a leap. Louella proves to be a song of longing for those around you to be wild enough to take those leaps by your side.
Jason's harmonica drops in along with a mighty fiddle backing from Matt Heckler, both woven together with the ghostly sounds of Timothy Dick on pedal steel. Julia Fryling holds down a head bopping beat on the drums, rattling the bones of this song along with Amie Astelle plowing the groove on upright bass. The lone wolf has a pack howling alongside him now. The band plays as if the song is more than a melody, lyrics and a driving beat, but something that is reeled in from the nowhereland that lingers beneath it all, each member doing their part to summon it, channeling the soundscapes of the soul of the open road and making sense of the experiences that happen along the way.
